Using Graphic Organizers:
the 8W's and Webquests

Why use the graphic organizers with WebQuests? See how the 8W's provide the needed support throughout the WebQuest process. With graphic organizers, students can visualize the process and the solutions.
  1. Introduction
    In the WebQuest introduction, students are presented with broad ideas.
    1. Watching
      In the Watching phase, students are asked to look at the world around them.
  2. Task
    Students are given a "mission"...a clear, concise, active statement of the activity.
    1. Wondering
      Students begin questioning and brainstorming ideas.
  3. Resources
    In this phase students read and review resources that will guide them through their process.
    1. Webbing
      Students being the process of locating information, connecting ideas and information...and more questioning.
    2. Wiggling
      Wiggling involves evaluating content and looking for clues, ideas and perspectives.
  4. Process
    A list of activities that will give them insight that will guide them to their final goal.
    1. Weaving
      Weaving involves organizing, planning, and using collected information.
    2. Wrapping
      This is the phase for developing a way of communicating ideas in terms their peers understand.
  5. Evaluation
    Reflection on the process and review of the product.
    1. Waving
      Waving is sharing ideas and presenting to peers and asking for feedback.
    2. Wishing
      Is evaluating on the process and the product...it includes planning for the future.
  6. Conclusion
    The process of evaluation can act as the conclusion.
